Winter is Coming Don’t Get Caught Out
British Gas has recently warned households to “prepare now” for the cold spell ahead, and they’re right.
Last winter, over 1.2 million homes were left without heating or hot water due to boiler breakdowns. Most people don’t think about their boiler until it stops working… usually on the coldest day of the year.

Our advice: check and service your system before the cold hits.
Our Winter Readiness Tips:
- Book your annual boiler service now. – This keeps your manufacturer warranty valid and ensures your system is safe and efficient.
- Bleed your radiators. – If they’re cold at the top, air might be trapped.
- Check your pressure. – It should normally sit between 1 and 1.5 bar when cold.
- Don’t block your heat. – Keep furniture away from radiators and use thick curtains to hold warmth in.
- Use zonal heating wisely. – Only heat the rooms you actually use.
- Keep your thermostat between 18–21°C. – Lowering by just one degree can save around 10% on heating costs.
